Reward announced for info on absconding woman in blasts case

The police have launched an intensive manhunt for a 20-year-old woman from Mamsapuram, near Sriviliputtur in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, for her alleged connection with Muslim extremists.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Madurai range, M Ganesan said today that a substantial reward has been announced for information about her whereabouts.

The woman, Sangeetha, fell in love with Usman Ali of Sattur in Virudhunagar district, and married him last year after which she changed her name to Ayesha, police sources said.

Usman Ali, who was said to be the main accused in the case relating to stockpiling of explosives in a house at Vadapalani in Madras, reportedly escaped along with Ayesha before the police could reach the scene.

The police had already visited Mamsapuram and inquired with her parents who said they had disowned their daughter after she eloped with Usman Ali, sources said.
